Exciting New Zumba Gold and Zumba Chair Classes

January 23, 2012

2012 has begun with a ZumbaBang:  the beginning of some wonderful new classes, new facilities and new Zumba Gold participants. I am thrilled and energized to be bringing my Zumba Gold Fitness classes to Independent, Memory Care, Assisted and Skilled Care facilities. I am now doing either 60 minute Chair Zumba, 45-60 minute Zumba Gold or a 60 minute combination Chair and Gold Fitness class. Seeing the joy and aliveness in the faces of those in my class, inspires me to continue learning new steps and adding new music. When I teach Chair Zumba, I will generally sit in a chair to demonstrate the steps. Sometimes I’ll stand to show them how the steps look, how our hips move, so they can see the total body/mind experience.

We use belly dancing scarves, either around their hips or around their necks or wrists, so they can tap into their sense of sound on another level. We listen for the jingle jangle of the coins dancing with one another. I have invited the aides, staff and anyone standing around to watch us, to participate, to grab hold of a resident’s hand, to dance and celebrate the sacred art of music and dance with them.

  1. Thanks for all the information. I began teaching Zumba Gold in Nov 2010. I went to convention in 2011 and began teaching Zumba Gold Toning. My class loves it. I have done a Zumba chair class for the local nursing home. They enjoyed the class. After the remodeling is done in their facility, we are hoping to have a weekly class. That class was the most fun. The participants loved to make noise as they danced in their chairs. Tomorrow I’ll be giving a talk about Zumba Gold and Chair to a group called the Lifelong Learners. We are planning on doing a chair workout with them. I’m excited to share my love for Zumba with others.

    • Hi Deb, Thanks for taking the time to share your work with me. It’s refreshing and exciting to me when someone like yourself is beginning her career doing Zumba Gold. The elderly really need us to keep them going. Keep up the good work and if there’s anything I can do to help, please contact me.
